Tamil Nadu Agriculture Budget 2025




The Tamil Nadu Agriculture Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 includes a significant allocation of ₹45,661 crore for agriculture and allied sectors. This is the state's fifth exclusive agriculture budget and reflects a comprehensive push for sustainable and inclusive farming.




Key highlights of the budget are:




- The total gross cropped area in Tamil Nadu has increased to 151 lakh acres (2023-24), with double-cropped area rising to 33.60 lakh acres.


- Tamil Nadu ranks 1st in ragi productivity, 2nd in maize, oilseeds, and sugarcane, and 3rd in groundnut and minor millets productivity nationally.


- The government has allocated ₹55.44 crore for the Tamil Nadu Millet Mission and ₹108.06 crore for the Oil Seed Mission to boost self-sufficiency.


- An Alternative Crop Cultivation Scheme with ₹12.50 crore outlay aims to shift 1 lakh acres from paddy and sugarcane to water-efficient crops like millets, pulses, and oilseeds.


- ₹160 crore is allocated for mechanised paddy cultivation in both delta and non-delta districts.


- Sugarcane growers will receive a special incentive of ₹215 per metric tonne over the Union Government's Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP).


- 1,000 Chief Minister’s Farmers Service Centres will be established to provide farmers better infrastructure and services.


- ₹15 lakh is earmarked for obtaining GI tags for five regional products to enhance market value.


- ₹2 crore is allocated for an international exposure tour for 100 progressive farmers to countries like Japan, China, and Vietnam.


- A Tamil Nadu Cashew Board will be set up with ₹10 crore to support cashew production.


- ₹24 crore is allocated for the provision of solar pump sets to 1,000 farmers with subsidies up to 70%.


- A special scheme, Malaivazh Uzhavar Munnetra Thittam, will benefit 63,000 hill farmers addressing the unique agricultural needs of upland regions.




Overall, the budget emphasizes modernizing agriculture through mechanization, promoting alternative and sustainable crops, boosting farmer incomes, and supporting rural livelihoods with a green energy push and targeted welfare schemes.
